"I grew up as a younger brother in the country of silence, Finland. When I got born into this world, I didn’t scream. I was a quiet child. My parents noticed at a early age that it was easier for me to do cartwheels than to speak. They brought me to the local youth circus at the age of seven. Slowly cartwheels became my way to speak. It became my way to express and deal with things, but I still couldn’t pronounce the letter “R”.

I applied for circus universities to communicate even better. Luckily they took me in.

In school I was spending my time researching a circular piece of metal, cyr wheel. The simplicity of the object and the endless possibilites that it holds inside always fascinated me. I have always been dreaming about how to become my object, physically and movement-wise.

How can I take the form of a circle? How can I put screws everywhere?

 

Not so much has changed over the years. I still can’t pronounce the letter “R” and I'm constantly seeking for the same kind of curiosity and sincerity as in the first days I walked in to the youth circus. 

 

But not everything is the same. Now I can spin. Now I have a big head. Now I love tragedy."
